Applying for a Visa

Embassy Jurisdictions and Contact Information

  • The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ottawa accepts applications only from residents of Ottawa, ontario and Gatineau(Hull), Quebec. Please note: Residents in other areas should apply in their own consular district.

The visa processing time is five working days for most visas. Please take note of the Embassy holidays listed in the “Hours & Holidays” section under “About the Mission.” For cases in which the visa approval process will take longer than five days, the applicant will be notified of the delay.

Payment

  • Only cash and money orders are accepted. (Money orders should be made out to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea) Credit Card and Personal Cheque are not accepted.

Third-country Visa Issuance Limitation

  • Visas will not be issued by a Korean embassy or consulate in a country other than the one where the applicant holds citizenship (except for long-term visa holders in a third country). Applicants who are presently in Canada on tourist visas or through visa waiver programs are strongly advised to apply for their new visas in the country of their permanent residence.

Visa Application Form

  • The visa application form can be downloaded at can-ottawa.mofa.go.kr in the “VISA Application Forms” section on the main page. Only one type of form is used for all visa types. Only completed forms will be accepted.
  • How to Complete Your Application

    Please make sure to complete all sections. Your application will be assessed based on the documentation submitted. Failure to provide complete, truthful and accurate information may result in your application being refused.

  • Important Information for Completing the Visa Application Form

    Read all the instructions carefully before you begin to complete the application forms. Fill in the forms carefully and completely. Please use a typewriter or print clearly in black ink.

  • If there is not enough space to complete any of the sections, please attach an additional sheet.*Write “N/A” if a section is not applicable. Do not leave blanks.
  • For applicants with a visa issuance number, print the number on the bottom of the application.
  • For E-1 and E-2 visa applicants, provide the full names and complete addresses of post-secondary schools attended. Only graduates of accredited schools are eligible to apply for these types of visas.
  • Please note that unsigned visa applications will not be accepted.

Photo Specifications

  • A 3.5cm x 4.5cm passport-type colour photo is required for all visa applications(white background, must be taken within the last 6 months by a commercial photographer with the date stamp on the back)

  • The Embassy of the Republic of Korea reserves the right to request additional documents if needed in the review process.

Validity of Visa

  • In most cases, visas are valid for 3 months. A visa application can be submitted no earlier than 3 months prior to the planned trip.

Visa Denial

  • If a visa is not issued, the passport will be returned to the applicant. All other submitted documents will not be returned.

US and Chinese Applicants

  • Please note that the visa fee for US citizens is U$45(C$58.50) regardless of the visa type. People’s Republic of China applicants who are applying for visa types other than C-1, C-2, and C-3 should contact the Embassy for details.

Notarization

  • Following Documents can be confirmed and verified by the Embassy
    • For a Police Records Search Certificate Confirmation
      • Original Police Records Search Certificate
      • Fee: Cdn $5.20/document (money order or cash only)
      • A copy of the applicant’s passport
    • For a Degree Verification
      • Original university degree
      • A photocopy of university degree which has been notarized by a notary public
      • One sealed university transcript (must be most recently issued)
      • Fee: Cdn $5.20/document (money order or cash only)
      • A copy of the applicant’s passport The Korean Embassy can only verify university degrees (not unaccredited schools and diplomas).

  • Single-entry visa for less than 90 days: Amount equivalent to C$52
  • Single-entry visa for more than 91 days: Amount equivalent to C$78
