> Guideline of Criminal Record and Apostille by country.

본문

A Criminal Record Check will determine if you have been charged or convicted of a crime.
If a name-based criminal record check does not provide a definite way of confirming your identity, you may be asked to provide fingerprints.

* NOTICE : Due to COVID-19, we are experiencing a higher volume of CBC requests. Take this process as soon as you have a plan.
** Policy can change anytime by government rules. Always check your government guide.

* Name on the CRC(Criminal Record Check) must be the same on the passport.
If not, submit a copy of a photograph ID by government (i.e. driver license) which displays the same name on CRC

Since July 2007, Korea and Australia have relied upon a Memorandum of Understanding with regard to apostilles and the certification of documents.
For apostilles, you may need to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Passport Office for an apostille label and/or have certification from a Notary Public (NP):

■ New Zealand
※ After you receive a Background record check, You MUST have it as an Apostille. Korean Immigration would NOT accept applications without it.

The Embassy in Seoul is not able to provide a criminal record check service, nor can the Embassy authenticate record checks.
New Zealand Police are often asked for a “Police clearance certificate”, especially by people applying for a job overseas.
New Zealand Police do not produce “Clearance Certificates” as such, but you can get a copy of your criminal record from the Ministry of Justice.
The Authentication Unit of the Department of Internal Affairs issues Apostille Certificates.

■ United States

One of the most time-involved documents to get for the South Korean teaching visa, besides the apostille, is obtaining a National-level FBI background check.
Korean Immigration does not accept CBC issued by individual states, therefore a federal level check is needed. It also needs to get an Apostille.
For more detaile, review the Apostille website.

> Original Criminal Record Check must be issued within the last 6 months in your jurisdiction

Local Police Check: Contact your local police department where you reside or last resided in the United States,
request that the police conduct a criminal records search and provide you with a document reflecting that there is no history of a criminal record.
Local police departments may require your personal appearance in order to conduct the search.

Please call your local police station to verify hours and procedures.
You may have to go to another police station if your local police station does not have the necessary equipment or staffing.

Please visit the Korean National Police Agency’s official website to find a local police station closest to your residence.

The U.S. Embassy cannot offer any apostille services. An apostille is a certification that a document has been “legalized” or “authenticated”
by the issuing agency through a process in which various seals are placed on the document.

For more detailed information on how to submit your criminal background check, please review the FBI website.

Current processing time for Identity History Summary requests submitted via the mail is 2-4 weeks.
Allow additional time for mail delivery. In the States, there have been waits of upwards of 3 to 4 months at times.

Korean immigration does not accept CRC from third party providers
however they will accept them for certain companies that do the FBI background checks and they can take in a week.
Although some services can help to reduce this time, if you go through them make sure to check on the specifics of what Korea will accept.

※ After you receive a Background record check, You MUST have it as an Apostille. Korean Immigration would NOT accept applications without it.

Follow the Government and Embassy/Consulate of Korea laws as you are applying for a Korea visa. Check well before applying your documents.
