Step By Step
| 1. Schedule a visit to the immigration office 2. When you visit, ask at the information desk where the information disclosure counter is located 3. Request certified copies of your degree and criminal record that you submitted 4. Once you receive the documents, submit them to your school |
Getting Certified Copies
Plain photocopies may not be accepted. You need originals with apostille or certified copies from immigration.
Best option: Collect them in person at the immigration office. Visit the information desk and ask for the certified copy counter. Allow several working days. You can do this after you arrive at your new position and visit your new local office.
Questions
Q: I have an E visa or F visa. Do I still have to submit these?
A: Yes. No visa type exempts you from registration. Everyone submits the same documents.
Q: My previous employer never asked for these documents
A: They may have handled it without telling you or requirements vary by office. Regardless, submission is required.
Q: I work at a public school (EPIK) / I taught elsewhere / I moved districts
A: Previous registrations do not transfer. Each school and district requires its own file. Contact your current school or previous employer to retrieve documents.
Q: My old school kept my papers / My friend skipped this
A: Documents do not transfer between employers. If you skip submission you risk delays in your visa and teaching position.
| Can not teach without registration. Schools will not keep an unregistered instructor. Finish registration before your first class. |
Online Option
You can file an information disclosure request at open.go.kr. Processing takes 6 to 20 days. The portal is in Korean only and the process is complex. Collecting in person at immigration is faster and simpler.
