외국인 근무처 변경신고 Foreign Employee Workplace Change Notification

본문

When a foreign employee changes their workplace in Korea, they must report it to the immigration office within 14 days of the change. This notification is crucial to maintain legal status and avoid penalties. Workplace change reporting requires an in-person visit, especially for E-2 visa holders in Korea. In some cases, HiKorea might allow online applications for certain visa types or updates, but workplace change for teaching positions almost always requires a personal visit to the immigration office.

Here’s how to proceed:

Visit HiKorea web, Make a reservation for reporting the workplace change.
*Reservations can only be made after the employment contract start date.

In-person Visit: If an online reservation isn’t available, you may visit the immigration office directly. Be prepared for possible long waiting times.

Why is a visit necessary?
When changing workplaces, foreign employees must report it to the immigration office within 14 days of the new contract start date. This is required to update their visa status and ensure they remain compliant with Korean immigration law.

What happens if you don’t report it on time?
Fines: Depending on how long the delay is, fines can range from 100,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW or more.
Visa Issues: It can also negatively impact future visa renewals or applications.

What if no reservation is available within the required period?
If no available appointment slots exist before the 15-day deadline, you may visit the immigration office in person without a reservation.
However, be prepared for long waiting times (from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as walk-in visits are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to manage work during this time?
Inform your employer in advance and request a day off for your visit.
If your visit date exceeds 15 days from your start date, you must inform your employer on your first day of work. Let them know that a fine may be issued and kindly request them to allow you to visit the immigration office before the deadline.

Since immigration offices are extremely busy, it’s best to visit early in the day to avoid prolonged delays.
In some cases, proof of your visit can be given to the school if you need to justify your absence.
