Returning to Korea on a New E-Visa
For teachers who finished a contract cleanly and want to be rehired while abroad
| Confirm your own case with the consulate and immigration yourself, at least twice, using your own personal details. A friend said, someone said, I heard, none of that counts. Procedures change with each review and each officer. From abroad you can still call 1345, and other teachers call it themselves, so make the call yourself rather than relying on secondhand information. Even so, the officer may still ask you to bring new documents, and that is not something we can control. |

01. Timing: the 80-Day Rule
| The Deadline | Your new employer should file with Korean immigration within 80 days of your final departure from Korea. The official window is longer, but BRIDGE sets 80 days as a safety margin for review and any extra documents |
| Documents Reused | Within this window your home-country criminal record (CRC) and degree can, in some cases, be waived, because immigration reuses the records already in the Korean system |
| Not Guaranteed | Even inside the window, an officer can still ask for fresh documents, and this does happen. It is more likely if your papers were filed long ago, or for RSA nationals where document checks are stricter |

02. What to Prepare
Secure these before you leave, or while you are abroad. Scan each file clean and print-ready in high resolution (JPG or PDF).

03. The Process While Abroad
| 1 | Find a job and sign. Ask the Korean consulate where you are staying about the procedure yourself, early. Do not wait until the deadline is near to gather information |
| 2 | Send your prepared documents to the BRIDGE team |
| 3 | Immigration filing, within 80 days of departure. Your new employer files with Korean immigration and obtains the Certificate of Visa Issuance number. Home-country CRC waived in most cases |
| 4 | Collect the visa locally. Once the number issues, take your passport to the Korean consulate where you are and receive the E-visa |
| 5 | Enter Korea on E-visa status and begin work |

04. Key Points
| Third Country Stay | If you stayed in a third country for less than 6 continuous months, that country's criminal record may also be skipped, but the officer can still require it |
| New Employer OK | The waiver applies even to a brand-new workplace, not just your previous school, as long as you are within the window after departure |
| Once more: every document is at the officer's discretion. Required papers and timing differ by person, and visa issuance can take roughly 2 to 8 weeks depending on the consulate and season. Plan with margin, and confirm your own case with the consulate. |
