BRIDGE SUPPORT GUIDE

Immigration and Onboarding Guide

Your steps in order after joining your new school

Rules differ by region and change without notice. Do not assume, guess, or decide alone. Always confirm the latest information directly with the immigration office or the education office.
The documents listed here are the standard set. An officer may request additional documents at any time, even ones not shown here.
Unauthorized sharing or disclosure of this guide is prohibited.
Please read this guide first, in order. If any work-related booking or schedule is needed, do not arrange it on your own. Discuss it with your employer first and set the date together

01. Reservation Information

This comes first. If your work is starting within two months and no reservation has been made yet, contact your BRIDGE recruiter right away. Even if a reservation is already made, changes can happen depending on your employer's schedule. Do not panic.

If Not BookedWork starting within two months with no reservation yet, contact your BRIDGE recruiter immediately
If ChangedA booking may still change with your employer's schedule. Do not panic
Stay ActiveDo not wait passively. Scheduling is a shared responsibility. Message your BRIDGE recruiter freely, anytime

02. Who Must Visit the Immigration Office

Who GoesThe employer or the teacher may visit. Required documents are the same for both
No ARCIf you do not have an ARC you must visit in person
Do Not RushDo not visit immigration early or submit anything prematurely. This causes delays or rejection

If your employer or manager has time, they may come along with you. But accompanying you is not an obligation. You are an adult, and teachers all across the country visit on their own. Try not to think along the lines of "my last employer came with me, so why does my new one not." Keeping a positive view makes the whole process easier.

03. Health Check-up

Anyone without an ARC card, and anyone moving to a new workplace, must take the check-up. This applies to everyone, whether you are a Korean national or an F visa holder, with no exceptions. If you want to work as a teacher, you take it.

E-2 Test OnlyYou must take the E-2 visa examination, not a general health check. See Medical Check-up for E-2 / F visas
Even With a CardEven if you already hold an ARC, if the officer requests it you must take the test again

04. What You Must Do at Immigration

Whether you hold an F visa or are a Korean national, this applies to everyone. If you want to work as a teacher, these documents must be registered each time you register with an education institution, so please do not decide on your own that you can skip them.

1Copy of your degree
2Copy of your criminal record check
Do not use a copy you saved yourself. At the immigration office you request a certified true copy (원본대조필), which costs roughly 300 to 1,000 KRW, and submit that.
This holds even if your employer never asked, your previous school did not mention it, or an officer says they do not know. Some officers may overlook it, so follow the guide closely.
See How can I obtain a copy? For general enquiries call 1345

05. What to Prepare Before You Visit

DeadlineVisit before your ARC expires. If an expiry date is printed on the back of your card, go by yourself even if the available appointment is far off. See the Immigration Guide and the visit guide
PassportIf your passport has less than 13 months left, renew it first. If you are in a hurry and skip this, you will have to do the whole process twice
Which OfficeVisit only the office that covers your residential address. Do not go to a random office. It will waste your time
Booking RuleFrom Nov 2025 (MOJ policy change) all reservations must be made personally by you. First discuss the date and time with your BRIDGE recruiter and employer, then book on HiKorea
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED (MOJ STANDARD)
1Immigration visa application
2★ University degree
Accredited bachelor's or higher. Notarised and apostilled. Even if you submitted it in Korea before, you may need to submit it again if they request it, most often when it was submitted long ago
3★ Criminal record check
Notarised and apostilled, and still within its valid period
4Passport photos
Korean ID photo standard. Prepare 4 to 6 copies. See the photo standard guide
5New housing documents
If you arranged your own housing. See the housing guide
6Tax document
If you ever earned income in Korea. Request this before leaving your current employer, in your final month
7Letter of Release
If your current contract does not end exactly as originally agreed. The letter must clearly state the employer and company details and the exact reason for leaving
Even if you have lived in Korea for years, read the guide carefully. Missing one step can cause delays or stress. Always message your BRIDGE recruiter first. We will check your situation and guide you step by step

06. Changing from a D Visa Inside Korea

If you are switching from a D-2, D-10 or H-1 visa to E-2 without leaving Korea, the outline below applies. Everything above still applies to you. See the visa change guide.

BookingA status change requires a HiKorea reservation. Book it yourself at the office covering your address
Stay ValidYour current stay must still be valid on the day you file. Once it lapses the change is refused
Do Not TeachDo not start teaching before the change is approved. A student or working holiday visa never covers instruction
Review TimeProcessing runs about 1 to 4 weeks. After approval, complete the employment report and begin work
For anything unclear, message your BRIDGE recruiter or call the Immigration Contact Center on 1345 for English support
